Q:what does "6jib" mean? I'm a new fan of Super Junior and I'm really falling behind to the other fans.

Anonymous

Oh I answered the same question before: 6jib means the “6th album” (jib = album).

“Falling behind”? :/ I don’t think that’s possible. There isn’t some kind of fixed standard, knowledge competition or similar stuff. (Though some people might pretend there is). No need to worry. Also feel free to ask. ^^

(I am really surprised whenever a new fan finds me o_o)

Q:Can you give a detailed opinion about Leeteuk's character? There are so many rumors and negative words about him, yet ELF seem to take him as an angel.

Anonymous

I can. But I won’t. Instead I will say two things: 1) There are more shades than black and white. 2) Military service will be a good break for him, one he seriously needs.

Ps: Some Elf. S-o-m-e :)

Q:What do you think about Xias Tarantallegra?

Anonymous

This:

Feels like a combination of those: Woodkid’s iron and Ukiss’s Neverland

I like the dancers. Especially the female ones! Sexiness! (and I am not talking about what they wear) There is a lot right with this video just for one reason: it goes beyond slick. Nice. ^_^

Suicide - and why you shouldn’t joke about it

In 1999 Gan Miyeon (member of  BabyVOX) received many hatemail disguised as fanmail after rumours got stirred up that she is dating a member of a boyband. Those hatemails containd razors, letters written in blood and similar stuff. In 2006, TVXQ’s U-know received a soda injected with glue and was hospitalized. There are incidents just as bad as those named above and it’s easy to find posts and comments full of hate and bad wishes on the internet as well. And many still remember that one incident in 2009 when more than 3000 people signing a petition titled “Jaebum Should Commit Suicide”. Thankfully at least a bit humanity left in this world was proven by another petition (“Please Forgive Our Jaebeom Just This Once”) gaining more than 6000 signatures.

In 2009 there has been an average of 28.4 suicides per 100.000 people. Or using a different way to say it: about 15000 Koreans commited suicide in 2009.The number is that high, and yet there are people daring to joke (or are serious?) about a matter, that’s far from funny. Clearly those who are joking about it don’t consider the consequences: from hurting a person’s feeling to giving them the last push.

Image - what they seem to be

Who are you? Or seem to be? What are you like? Even as a commoner (= non public person) we built up an image, most of the times rather unconsciously, defining how others see us and influencing how we see ourselves. Image is an subjective impression based on behaviour, attitude, looks and reputation, whereas reputation can equal the image itself, or influence the image. Who we seem to be (or rather: what we seem to be like) isn’t only defined by ourselves, but also by our environment and fellow human beings. It will take a major influence on how people react towards oneanother. Having a good image can help a liar making people believe him/her. Having a bad image can result in others blaming an innocent person. The image is a huge factor on whether a person is well liked or not. Whether people will trust one easily or not. Whether the job interview goes well or not. Image is easier seen than the complex character most people in reality are.

Certainly a public person (product) needs to take extra care of their image. Image is one major characteristic of idols, where not (necessarily) music is sold, but rather personality (especially in variety shows). The main differances between a unconsciously built up image and a consciously built up image is the influence one takes on it and whether or not it is linked/based to/on ‘natural’ character. The farer image and character are apart the harder it is to keep the image intact. Similar to acting, an image is built up on accenting certain emotions/behaviour and their effect on the enviroment (target group). Making it possible to relatively calculate (and manipulate) reactions based on experience and observation (What do people like? Why do they like it?).

At the same time image can influence the actual character. The longer one maintains a image, the more likly it is to get it mixed up with one’s original character. This can be a bad or a good thing. Depending on their original character and their image: Do they fit each other? Are they each others extreme? Both would be ok as long as they don’t involve aggression, disrespect, negative habits, etc. It’s important to be aware of changes and influences of each side. Building up an stabilised image, takes some time. Not only because habits and behavior need to be trained/adjusted, but also because it’s important to concentrate on an image that one can “accept” on the long run, or which can be  slowly changed (often due to extern influences), without damage, since a quick (or ”worse”: frequent) change of image (or at least of the core of an image) will raise scepticism/disbelief/mistrust (“fakeness”).

Image is set by how we present ourselves to others. And it’s a big part of the impression and memory people will have of each other. But understanding or knowing a person’s image doesn’t make one know the person (mind/true personality) itself. Espcially fans need to remember that.

Q:What can you say about EXO fever now? I'll be honest that most fans are just seeing the physical side. Hate to admit, they still have a long way to go.

Anonymous

Exo aren’t bad, they are well-prepared rookies with a rather strong concept. Yet I think the mass of teasers* rose expectations too high. They are rookies. They aren’t flawless (which is totally fine! It’s ok to have flaws). But I really think Sment tried too hard to build up a hype, rising expectations too high (when not being able to fullfill them) which resulted in people doing both: criticising and praising them more than they deserve.

I don’t dare to say “most fans are just seeing the physical side”, but yes: a lot fans do. And perhaps “most” if it’s not “just”.

Edit: *Apart from that many people got bored latest after the 20th teaser.
